Tuna Fish Recipes

Is there anyone out there that can make good tuna fish? I always thought my mom could, but as hard as I try, I can’t seem to get it right. I never eat it unless it is mixed with mayonnaise, which means that I don’t eat it very often any more. That is just too much in the calories department. However, I do like to have it once in a while, but I just can’t seem to make it right. I have even tried to get it in restaurants, and have always left disappointed. Tuna is very good though, especially for the dieter, if it is prepared the right way.

Tuna fish had a bad rap for quiet a while. Many who packaged it didn’t take the time to make sure that dolphins were not in the nets. People freaked out, and dolphin-safe tuna was born. Most of it has this on the label now, and it is not nearly the concern it once was. Of course, one has to think, “That’s fine for the dolphins, but what about the poor tuna fish?” Good point. I bet the tuna didn’t get much of a break in that department.

If you like tuna fish though, you can find some recipes to include it in your weekly menus. Just don’t ask me how to make it, because I just can’t do it. Some use this as a health food, and you have to leave the mayo out of it if you want to do that. You also have to make sure that you buy a version that is packed in water and not in oil. If you get tuna in oil, you are adding many unneeded and unnecessary calories to something that can otherwise be very good for you.

As a diet food, tuna fish has a lot of great things going for it, and if you can eat it plain, you have found a great source of protein. Protein will fill you up and keep you from getting hungry an hour later, which is often a huge problem for many on a diet. When you eat smaller proteins than you are use to having, you tend to be hungry again very soon, and if what you are having is heavy on carbs, that is going to be something that is quite hard to squelch. Tuna fish is just one of the great protein foods that can help someone curb their cravings, at least a little bit.
