Deliciously Healthy Raw Food
When you think of raw foods, vegetables and fruits are probably the first things that come to mind. These should be staples in a healthy diet, and should be consumed at every meal. You just have to decide which of these raw foods are your favorites, and remember to buy plenty each trip to the store. The theory behind raw food is that the vitamins and minerals take a turn for the worse while cooking. We all know that we lose some of the vitamins and minerals as we cook and we don’t want to cook all of the nutrition out into the air or into the water.
However, eating raw food can be dangerous as well if some precautious don’t take place. Even the healthiest foods can contain harmful substances. Remember when eating these raw foods that they must all be washed thoroughly before you eat them. They may have e coli on them, and this is not something you want to mess with. Even if the fruit has a rind, you still want to wash it. If there is something unsavory on the rind, you will push it through to the fruit when you cut it with a knife.
Some world cuisines include raw meat and raw fish. Raw meat, otherwise known as stake tartare, is a delicious dish and great adventure for meat lovers. It is a very popular dish in French brasseries and bistros, however, has to be ordered only in restaurants with good reputation and specialized on meat. If you want to try it at home, it is quite easy to prepare, however you should use only good quality beef, preferably natural or organic, and only filet mignon or top sirloin freshly ground. Don’t use any other grade of beef.
Raw fish, otherwise known as sushi and sashimi, is significant part of Japanese cuisine. It takes some special knowledge and technique to prepare sushi at home. Therefore, any raw food you consume like this should come from a restaurant that is clean, and has a good reputation. You do not want to eat bad fish, especially if it is raw.
If you decide to go with raw foods exclusively, as you see, it is possible to get a balanced diet included raw fruit and vegetables, fish and meat. However, I wouldn’t go to extreme like this, some dishes have to be cooked!
